At last! The second set of Read about Australia is finally out.
This is the series that libraries asked for – non-fiction easy-read books with Australian content.
I’ve had some lovely feedback from trialling teachers, and I hope your library users or classroom learners will enjoy them too.
The new titles are:
- Amazing Animals of Australia
- The Bush in Australia
- G’day! English in Australia
- Flags and Symbols of Australia
As before, they all have YouTube audio as well as engaging learner worksheets to download. Teachers can download the audio and worksheets, as well as introductory slides.
Who are these books for?
These books are what I’d call ‘migrant English readers’ or ‘ESOL readers’ or ‘readers for multilingual learners’– in other words, they are a little different from those international ELT readers you see from the big publishers.
These books focus on Australian content and have a spacious ‘literacy look’ for learners at strong beginner or post-beginner level who may be new to reading in our script.
They can be used for independent reading, as a class reader, for a book club or in a conversation group.
The language structures have been kept simple, as each page has a few words of new vocabulary which learners will have to look up.
The tone is chatty, in a ‘fun facts’ way, because I wanted the books to be enjoyable and inspire learners to keep reading, to find out more about their new country.
